Animatronic Brachiosaurus

A 10–22 m long-neck sauropod with the neck carriage engineered for the raised park silhouette.

There are two long-necks in the range and they are not interchangeable. Brachiosaurus carries its head almost straight up on longer front legs; Apatosaurus carries it forward on a level spine. Choosing the wrong one is the most common mistake on a park order, and it is visible from the gate.

Front Legs Longer Than the Back

Brachiosaurus is the sauropod with the sloping-up spine: front limbs longer than the hind, shoulders high, head carried 12 metres up on a 20-metre animal. Most long-neck builds in the market use an Apatosaurus-style level spine, which is why they look wrong next to the reconstruction drawings.

The slope is a frame decision, made before fabrication. It cannot be corrected on site, and it is the first thing a museum visitor checks.

Sizes From 5 to 20 Metres

Five and eight metres are the indoor builds — a hall with a 6-metre ceiling takes the eight-metre animal with the head raised. Ten to fifteen metres is the park build where the animal reads from a hundred metres away. Above twenty metres the head goes to 12 metres and the transport changes category: the neck sections get longer than a standard trailer.

Power scales with length at about 250 W per ten-metre unit, so even the largest build is not a heavy electrical load.

Why the Lead Time Is Longer

45 to 60 days rather than the usual 30 to 45. The extra time is the neck: a 12-metre head height means a neck structure that has to hold position while moving slowly, and that is the part of a long-neck build that gets tested longest on our floor.

Questions Before Ordering

Brachiosaurus or Apatosaurus? Brachiosaurus has longer front legs and a head carried up to 12 metres. Apatosaurus has a level spine and a head carried forward. Different builds, not a size option.

Can the head reach down to visitors? On the smaller builds, yes, within the servo range. On a 20-metre animal the head stays high — the neck does not have that travel.

Why 45-60 days instead of 30-45? The neck structure is the constraint. A head at 12 metres has to hold position while moving slowly, which is the longest tested assembly in the range.

How is a 20-metre build shipped? In sections, with the neck separated. Site access is checked before production because the sections are longer than a standard trailer.

Power and Site Preparation

110–240 V AC at the animal, about 250 W per ten-metre unit. The load is small; the cable route is the constraint, because a long-neck build sits at the end of a path rather than beside a building.

Outdoors the base needs a hard standing and drainage. A large sauropod stands in one position for years, and the base is where water does its damage long before the animal shows it.

What Commissioning Looks Like

Sections assembled, neck run through its full range, then motion tuned: neck sweep reduced until it reads as slow, jaw slowed, breathing set so the body does not visibly pulse.

At this scale any motion at the wrong speed is obvious from a distance — and from a distance is where visitors see it first.

Materials. Internal steel frame, high-density foam core, premium hand-finished silicone surface (patent ZL 2022 1 0224489.5), optional LED eyes.
