Animatronic Ceratopsian Model with Head Crest

This ceratopsian is built around the skull: a deep beaked head with a raised bony crest above the brow, set on a heavy neck and a barrel body carried on four legs. It is a different animal from the theropods it will stand beside on the same lawn, and the difference is entirely in that head and in the posture the body takes because of it.

The model is built to a stated overall size with the skull and crest proportioned against that size, and it is supplied for park installation, museum display and mall placement, as a static or a moving animal. The four-legged frame is specified separately from the theropod frame because the load path is different.

A Head Built for Leverage

The skull is deep at the back, tapering to a beaked and hooked front, with a bony crest rising above the brow and a pronounced frill behind the head. The jaw is strong and the beak is finished in a keratin-like colour, which is what separates the animal from a generic horned dinosaur at a distance.

A four-legged theropod carries its weight differently from a biped, and the frame is built for it — the spine and the shoulder line take load that a biped puts through the hips, and a body that is too light under the front end will rock on the base. The legs are planted wide and the centre of mass is kept low and forward, which is what keeps the animal steady on a public site.

Specified for the Ground It Stands On

Hot-dip galvanised steel frame, anti-UV composite silicone skin over an elastic fibre mesh, and servo drives rated to IP65. Colour is applied in multiple gradient layers under a UV topcoat, with a banded back and a paler underside — the pattern is what carries the animal’s mass when it is seen in profile.

The unit arrives in bolted sections and assembles on site without welding, fixed to a concrete foundation, a weighted base or expansion bolts depending on the surface. Our technician joins the first run so the head movement, jaw travel, breathing and tail are set against the actual site.

Beside the Theropods

Museum grounds and educational displays, dinosaur trails, themed streets, mall atriums and public squares. A horned dinosaur is often installed next to a theropod so the two plans can be compared, and it works well in a planted setting where a low, four-legged body sits into the landscape rather than standing above it. It is also a good photo subject from the front, where the crest and the beak both read.

Questions Before Ordering

What sizes can be built? Anything from 1 m to 30 m long and up to 15 m tall. The size is set by the site, the sight lines and the transport route, not by a fixed catalogue.

How is it triggered? Four ways: infrared or radar sensing, a pre-programmed sequence set before dispatch, handheld remote, or voice interaction. Most sites run the sensor as the default and keep the remote for staff.

What does it need on site? A 110 V or 220 V supply and a solid fixing point. The unit arrives in modules and bolts together — no on-site welding.

Can it run outdoors? Yes. The standard specification is an outdoor one, with anti-UV silicone skin, a water-resistant servo drive rated to IP65, and a hot-dip galvanised frame that tolerates salt spray.

How is it fixed? Four options: concrete foundation with pre-embedded anchor bolts, a weighted base that can be moved as one piece, expansion bolts on a hard indoor floor, or a sealed and buoyancy-rated base for water features.

How long does production take? Custom builds run on a lead time confirmed against the drawing. Send the requirement and the site plan, and the proposal comes back with the timing and the drawings marked up.

Materials. National-standard steel frame, first-tier servo motors, high-density foam core, composite silicone skin over elastic fibre mesh, hand-sprayed colour finish.

Delivery and Installation

The model ships in bolted modules on a reinforced timber crate, with frame sections, skin panels and hardware packed and labelled. Sections bolt together on site; no on-site welding is required.

Our technician joins the first run so the head movement, jaw travel, breathing and tail are set against the site, and the skull and crest finish are checked in place after transport.

The base is fixed to suit the surface — a concrete foundation with anchor bolts for permanent outdoor work, a weighted base where the animal needs to move, or expansion bolts on a hard indoor floor.
