Life-size animatronic cave bear with hand-pasted fur, glass eyes and the heavy Pleistocene stance — for museum dioramas…
View ProductIce Age animals live or die on hair. A mammoth with the wrong coat reads as a grey elephant with a rug on it; the same body with the right coat length, colour banding and matting reads as a Pleistocene animal from thirty metres away.
The coat is built in layers — an underlayer that carries the volume, guard hairs that break the silhouette, and hand-applied matting at the shoulders and flanks where real animals wear. That is slower work than moulding a single furry surface, and it is the reason these builds cost more than a dinosaur of the same size.
Natural history museums use them as the ice-age gallery centrepiece, usually paired with a cave bear or a sabre-toothed cat. Parks use them on winter trails, where a mammoth in snow is the most photographed thing on the route. Winter light festivals use them as the non-illuminated anchor between light installations.
Indoors they are usually specified with a smaller movement set, because hair and motion compete for attention. Outdoors the movement matters more, because visitors see the animal from further away.
