Animatronic Megalosaurus Model

A Megalosaurus is built around the jaw. The skull is long and heavy, the gape is wide, and the teeth are large and slightly recurved — an animal that reads as a predator from the front and from the side, and that people photograph at close range because the head is the whole point. This model gives the skull the attention it needs.

The model is built to a stated overall size with the skull proportioned against that size, and it is supplied for museum display, park installation and mall placement. It is built as a moving animal with a full jaw, and the head can be detailed to a museum close-up standard.

A Jaw Built to Be Looked At

The skull is long with a deep rear section and a narrow snout, and the mouth opens to a wide gape that shows the full tooth row from the front. The teeth are moulded and fitted individually, slightly recurved and set in a way that catches the light — the detail that a visitor standing in front of the animal at a museum glass line is actually looking at.

The interior of the mouth is finished rather than left as a cavity: a textured throat, a tongue, and gums around the tooth line. Most of the work in a head like this is invisible in a wide shot and decisive in a close one, which is why a museum-grade build is priced differently from a park-grade build of the same animal.

Skin, Eye and Finish

The skin is anti-UV composite silicone over an elastic fibre mesh, with the colour applied in multiple gradient layers under a UV topcoat — the dark banding and pale underbelly are what make the animal read across its whole length rather than in patches. The eyes are LED units behind sculpted eyeballs with a painted iris.

The frame is hot-dip galvanised steel and the servo drives are rated to IP65. Where the model is installed indoors, in a museum atrium for instance, the same build and the same finish work without modification.

Front-Facing by Design

Museum displays and educational galleries, dinosaur trails, themed streets, mall atriums and public squares. A Megalosaurus is a front-facing animal — the head is the exhibit, and it is usually positioned so visitors approach it head-on rather than passing it in profile. In a museum it works at a glass line; in a mall it works as a photo point at the end of a route.

Questions Before Ordering

What sizes can be built? Anything from 1 m to 30 m long and up to 15 m tall. The size is set by the site, the sight lines and the transport route, not by a fixed catalogue.

How is it triggered? Four ways: infrared or radar sensing, a pre-programmed sequence set before dispatch, handheld remote, or voice interaction. Most sites run the sensor as the default and keep the remote for staff.

What does it need on site? A 110 V or 220 V supply and a solid fixing point. The unit arrives in modules and bolts together — no on-site welding.

Can it run outdoors? Yes. The standard specification is an outdoor one, with anti-UV silicone skin, a water-resistant servo drive rated to IP65, and a hot-dip galvanised frame that tolerates salt spray.

How is it fixed? Four options: concrete foundation with pre-embedded anchor bolts, a weighted base that can be moved as one piece, expansion bolts on a hard indoor floor, or a sealed and buoyancy-rated base for water features.

How long does production take? Custom builds run on a lead time confirmed against the drawing. Send the requirement and the site plan, and the proposal comes back with the timing and the drawings marked up.

Materials. National-standard steel frame, first-tier servo motors, high-density foam core, composite silicone skin over elastic fibre mesh, hand-sprayed colour finish.

Delivery and Installation

The model ships in bolted modules on a reinforced timber crate, with frame sections, the head assembly, skin panels and hardware packed and labelled. Sections bolt together on site; no on-site welding is required.

Our technician joins the first run so the jaw travel, the blink, the head movement and the breathing are set against the site, and the head and teeth are checked in place after transport — the skull is the part most worth verifying on the first day.

The base is fixed to suit the surface — a concrete foundation with anchor bolts for permanent outdoor work, a weighted base where the animal needs to move, or expansion bolts on a hard indoor floor.
